About the Retreat

We’re based in Edmonton, Alberta, on the traditional lands of the diverse Indigenous Peoples including the Cree, Dené, Anishinaabe, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, and Blackfoot peoples, and fortunate enough to have access to the vast North Saskatchewan River Valley Parks system. Within our beautiful river valley park are over 160 km of trail across 7,300 hectares filled with diversity and life.

During our urban retreats, we will guide you on a journey through the River Valley and explore topics to inspire, motivate and maximize growth. Whether you are an individual or a business, the departure from your daily routine will enable you to identify your growing edge, and uncover strategies to expand your roots. At the conclusion of the retreat, each participant will be challenged physically and mentally, and be equipped with a plan to move from a state of survival to growth.

We offer urban retreats throughout the year, with tailored experiences for groups, businesses and like-minded individuals. November through February, our retreats consist of a morning of snowshoeing and hiking in Edmonton and the surrounding areas, and an afternoon at our studio. As you move through the day, outside in, the group will explore the external and internal factors and variables that impact our growth.

  • Outer Bark: Evaluating our surroundings

  • Inner Bark: Resource inventory

  • Cambium: Active growth

  • Sapwood: Resilience

  • Annual Rings: Action planning

  • Heartwood: Self reflection

  • Pith: Mental hygiene

All of our retreats include an outdoors component and we ask that all participants are dressed appropriately for the weather. Our excursions during the urban retreats are typically two hours long and include physical activity.

Sarah van Kuppeveld

Ever since I can remember, I knew that I wanted to find a career that would make a difference in people’s lives. This interest led me on the journey to complete my Masters of Counselling. As a Registered Psychologist I feel that it is an absolute honour to sit with clients and hold space while their healing process unfolds.
